Featuring Cyprien and Ravette
End of 1996, Spring (Aftermath of Shadow Alliance) Auster Wood

Ravette
It was true that after Enebris took over that things were difficult for the ones who wanted nothing to do with the Shadow Alliance. Ravette was one of them as she did everything that she could to avoid from running into members that were apart of the Alliance, it made it harder to travel though since running into one could happen at anytime. The chestnut doe did what she could to avoid from running into any of them especially when she was traveling around to help others who were injured or sick. She had yet settle down to have a family of her own, but there is hope that she will be to have one someday. She wants to care for a little one and have a child of her own to where she could teach them whatever they wanted to learn.

It had been a peaceful day so far as she was traveling around gathering the items that needed to be stocked up for the patients that she had already. Ravette knew that she had to keep them on hand because of any situations that can cause for any injuries or illness of any kind. She knew that there would parties coming back from the battles against the Shadow queen and probably ones that had been captured by her. Luck was the one thing that Ravette considered, maybe it was because of her cautious and shy side that kept her from getting into trouble. Especially when it came to dealing with unknown Austerians, it was just in her nature to be like that since trouble could appear at any moment.

Word soon reached her that help from healers were needed because of the ones that were returning from the last battle with the Shadow Alliance. Ravette was one of the does who was on standby to help where she could with the dragon companion that always follows her. Ears flickered before she was directed to help a Colonel that had been injured during one of the few fights. Careful not to scared the injured stag, Ravette entered his resting place putting down the objects that she was going to use to help him recover from his recent injuries.

Cyprien
It felt to Cyprien like he hadn’t paused for breath in ages. So when his mother finally convinced him to settle down and let a healer take a look at him, he was weary down to his bones. He rested in a small glade within the Auster Wood, other guard members close by awaiting or receiving the same treatment. A few had their families with them. Ren had agreed to this only if his mother and father left him be. They’d gone searching for food, reluctant to leave their son after only just reuniting with him. The truth was Ren needed a moment to think, to gather his thoughts after everything that had taken place. Of course his body was tired, but his mind was just as exhausted.

So when the healer approached, he laid in a bed of grass with his eyes closed and his head dipped. But he heard her when she came to stand only a few steps from him and immediately his body moved to action. Ren’s eyes flew open and he hefted his weight onto his front hooves, his magic--weak from use--stirring within him. A second later he realized she was one of his own, the healer doe his mother had requested. He settled into his resting place again, swiftly dipping his head in apology.

“I’m truly sorry. Forgive me if I am a bit on edge.” Although his tone was nothing but polite, he didn’t seem to terribly bothered and his expression remained the same, brows low over bright green eyes, one of which had been gashed by a set of unforgiving claws. These two angry marks were not alone. Other injuries decorated the Colonel, some fresh from the latest fight and others attempting to heal from his time as prisoner.

“Please don’t let my upset keep you. I would like to get back to work as soon as possible.”

Ravette
Being one of the few healers that were waiting in Auster Woods, she was waiting to hear word from whoever needed before Cyprien’s parents came to her. She agreed to help their son after hearing the injuries that he had from the battles that he had dealt with. This was her job and since he was her patient, she was going to do what she could to help heal the wounds that he had received. The doe figured that he had to be some type of soldier if he had been one of the ones battling against the ones from the Shadow Alliance which she was happy to see over. The issue with the Alliance made things difficult for her, she had to be careful during her travels around her home because of how bad things got during that time. Relief was what she felt now, but who knows on how long that would actually last. Who knows when the next battle will be if it is going to repeat itself? The issue with the Alliance affected everyone that had been there to witness it.

Ravette had tried not to spook Cyprien figuring that he was resting when she entered the spot where he was resting. That proved wrong though when she watched him jerk awake to her sudden presence, she tried to show him that she wasn’t a threat though. Rave was here to help him, not hurt the already injured stag knowing that he had been through a lot already. Ears flickered watching him once he had calmed down before she dipped her head at him taking the apology, but the chestnut doe apologized herself.

“It’s quite alright, I understand. I’m sorry for scaring you.” Amber eyes flickered over the injuries checking to see how bad they were and what needed to be done to help them heal. It probably would be a bit for them to heal properly especially if they were fresh or ones that hadn’t gotten the right attention during the struggles that he had gone through. Time was needed for them to heal though

“You must let them heal before you can get back to work once again, the fresher ones might take longer to heal depending on the damage you’ve received.”

Cyprien
“Not a fault of yours, healer,” Ren assured her. He would forever be on edge, he felt, after everything that had happened. He’d spent months on end practically sleeping with one eye open, trapped in a cage, his days spent wondering when the next Shadow would come to mock and abuse him.

But she didn’t know that.

He was going to have to learn how to live among the herd again, not just a guard but one of them.

Cyprien watched her come closer, his eyes following her cautiously as they did everyone around him. Her next medical order had him raising a brow. He didn’t argue, but simply stated, “That’s unacceptable. Do what you can for this mess.” He tossed his nose to gesture toward the wounds covering his body. “It’ll have to do. There is no time for resting these days.”

Ravette
After the events that Cyprien had been in, Ravette couldn’t blame him for being on edge. She was still going to apologize though since it was her fault on scaring him, well to her it was anyways. She wasn’t going to ask questions about the injuries though, it probably was something that the stag wouldn’t want to discuss. Ears flickered at his words though “Okay if you say so, you can call me Ravette though.”

It was going to be a learning situation for Ren to become a herd member once again, but time would tell on how well that would work out for him. Ravette probably would of been the same way if she was in his position.

She called herself lucky to not have a run in with the ones from the Shadow Alliance, but it did make traveling a lot harder during that time.

A snort escaped her from his demand as Ravette was going to suggest rest no matter what. He needed it if he wanted to recover properly, If she had to stick around and make sure that the stag would rest then she would “And you have to rest, it’s the only way that you will be able to recover from these injuries. Whatever important things you have to do will have to wait.”

Cyprien
Ren scowled, his green eyes narrowing on the healer doe as she spoke. “Protecting the herd cannot wait. Ravette, is it? Do you value your life, Ravette? Because my job is to protect it. I don’t expect an enemy to wait for me to heal before they kill anyone.” He looked away dismissively, neck curled and head tilted high. “My life is dedicated to being a guard. To see it any other way would only put the herd at risk.”

He had been raised to believe so. Although due to recent events, Cyprien was currently questioning his parents judgement, which perhaps made him a bit more irritable than usual. He was relieved that the Auster territory had been returned to the true queen, but he had learned too many difficult lessons in the last couple of years to be put at ease. There was still work to be done.

Ravette
Ravette didn’t flinch under the gaze that she was getting from Cyprien, the gaze was nothing to scare here away. The stag was still a patient who needed her help and help was the one thing that she was going to do “And I’m sure that the older guards can handle it while you recover, there are plenty of guards that can help while you rest and recover.” She shifted moving to grab a few of the herds that she was going to use to help with his injuries, he needed to take something for the pain first before using the rest to help heal the wounds “The guards can wait until you return, you’ll be up before you know it though.”

Ravette wasn’t going to let him return back to guard duty right away since he needed to rest and recover which most likely would only take about a few days, maybe a week depending on if he does follow instructions. She shifted nudging one of the herbs toward him “Eat that first, it will help with the pain.”

Cyprien
With a scoff, Ren tossed his head to the distant trees. “I would sooner sacrifice my health than see Shadows flood this forest again, Ravette.” He turned his gaze back toward her again, this time meeting her eyes with a fierceness in his resolve that said he’d made his mind up long before settling down to allow a healer to help him.

“If every guard just assumed things would be handled in their absence, we would still be under Shadow rule, wouldn’t we?” He left it at that, hoping not to prolong their disagreement. And to show her his goal wasn’t to argue he didn’t fuss when she offered him herbs to help numb whatever pain plagued his body. He chewed and swallowed the bitter plants with only a moment’s hesitation.

Ravette
A annoyed snort escaped her as she picked up the herbs that she needed to help take care of the open wounds that Ren had “Too bad, you’re my patient and I’m not letting you sacrifice your health. At least rest for a couple of days before trying to go out there and do your job, I doubt that the Shadows are going to come back that fast.” Ravette knew how it could be when others were determined about wanting to do certain things when rest was needed.

“I understand what you are trying to do, but there are times when rest is needed. Stubbornness is good, but sometimes listening to others is a good thing.” Shifting on her feet, she moved to get the other herbs ready that were going to be placed on Cyprien’s wounds to help them heal.

Cyprien
Instead of meeting her eyes, Cyprien glanced at the distant forest surrounding the small glen they were in as she went to work, gathering the herbs she would need to apply to the wounds scattered over his chestnut coat. He paid little attention to her first comment, choosing to ignore her determination instead of respond to it. But what she said next had him looking to her again, snorting a dry laugh.

“Sometimes, yes,” he agreed, and then added, “but oftentimes it has not aided me in the past. I choose to follow my own instincts now.”

Ravette
Ravette took ahold of the herbs that she was going to use for Cyprien’s wounds as they had to be crushed up before they would be applied to his wounds. It would be the best way for them to heal and if he would let them close. She was hoping that he would listen to her words or if it would help, maybe it would be a lesson for the stubborn stag in the ending. Sometimes, learning the hard way helps out depending on if one decides to listen to it or not.

“But it will aid you know if you decide to listen, Cyprien.”

Cyprien
True to his stubborn nature, Cyprien went along with the very same attitude, her words changing nothing about his mindset. Instead of continuing to hash it over with the healer, he decided to choose a different tact. He changed the subject.

“My mother asked for you specifically. Why? Do you know her? Or perhaps your family does?”

Ravette
The chestnut healer was willing to speak her mind since there were times when she left like it was needed. She wasn’t afraid to tell her opinion though which was why she was talkin got Cyprien about what she thought, she wanted him to rest because of how the wounds looked. Rest and time was needed to help him heal and recover for the ordeal that he has been through with the Shadows.

Amber eyes glanced up at him for a moment as she started to apply the crushed up herbs to his wounds “I don’t know your mother, she probably heard of my abilities or someone told her about me. It’s possible that my parents might know her, I would have to ask them though.”

Cyprien
He met her gaze, his body unflinching even as she began to treat his wounds. He held still, not only for the sake of his own pride but also because he knew it was important to her work. A part of him was relieved to hear that she didn’t know his mother. That way he could be certain her scheming hadn’t reached even the healers.

“I’m sure if they did you would remember them mentioning her. She is… memorable at best.” Cyprien averted his gaze, the disdain in his voice recognizable but the reason for it was not explained. In his opinion one simply needed to know his mother for an explanation.

Ravette
A light smile graced her lips while she worked on treating his wounds with the herbs that would help them heal. It did make it easier on her when the one that she was treating wasn’t going to move since struggles made it very difficult on her. Ravette and her family knew nothing about his mother, it was a bit normal for her to avoid others sometimes, mostly because of her shy side. But she does like the company of others.

“Possibly, I haven’t met too many Austerians yet though. I travel too much to take care of my patients.” Ravette wasn’t going to make him tell about his mother figuring that he was uncomfortable about it. Besides, some things were better left unsaid.

Cyprien
“Count yourself lucky you haven’t crossed her path,” Ren replied, rolling his eyes. While there was an obvious annoyance in his tone concerning his mother, there was also the familiarity of family. At least one could speak highly of Elowen’s determination.

His gaze moved again to the healer, watching her work to patch him up. She asked no details about his wounds, and for that he was grateful. Cyprien had lived long enough beneath the cloak of Shadows, their hold on Auster controlling his life in every aspect. Now he just wanted to move on.

“How long have you been a healer?”

Ravette
“Must be some bad blood between the two of you for that to happen.” Ravette had a feeling that there was something that happened between the two, but it wasn’t her place to ask what caused it. She wasn’t the type to put her nose into business of others unless she felt the need to say something.

The chestnut doe wasn’t going to ask about where Cyprien had gotten the wounds from, she was going to do her best to care for him and help him recover from whatever caused the wounds. It wasn’t her business anyways and if he felt up to telling her then that was up to him. They both knew the struggles from dealing with the Shadows

“Hmm... About two years now, I’ve learned a lot from my mother though.”

Cyprien
“Not so much bad blood as… disagreements,” Cyprien explained. He dropped it at that. Even if he had wanted to delve into the details of the ongoing unrest between him and his mother, it wasn’t the sort of story anyone wanted to hear. So he moved on, turning his attention to her explanation of her career.

“So she is a healer as well then,” he said, more an assumption than a question. “I fell into my parents’ work too. Both of them are guards.”

Ravette
She wasn’t going to push into details about the issues between Cyprien and his mother, she was her to help his injuries and make sure that he will rest until he’s recovered enough to continue with his duties. Ravette knows how important it is for him, but rest comes first.

Nodding, amber eyes glanced up at him for a moment “She is, I’m not as experienced as she is though. I still have a bit more to learn.” Ears flickered while she gave a light smile “You must like working as a guard if you followed the path that your parents took.”

Cyprien
“Seems to me you have it figured out well enough,” he replied, nodding his head to her work on his wounds. “But then again what do I know about healer’s work.” He noticed her soft smile and the tone she used while speaking of her mother and the work of healing. She found joy in that then, in her family and following her mother’s example.

Ren nodded when she mentioned his work as a guard, his chin tilting higher with pride. “It is an honourable position in the herd, one that offers a good name to my family that came before me and for my family that will come after me.”

Ravette
“I hope that I do, I’ve done pretty well with my other patients so far though.” Ravette enjoyed working as a healer since she liked helping people and making sure that they would be okay with any injuries or illness that they have. Ravette took what she was taught by her mother which turned her into the healer that she was today.

Listening to Cyprien tell about his job, she nodded as she was almost done fixing the injuries that he had “I’m sure that your family will be proud either way, you must of done pretty well so far as a guard.”

Cyprien
“And so far you haven’t failed me either,” he added, his dry smile matching his sense of humor. It wasn’t often Cyprien joked, but he was warming to the healer’s presence, even if he didn’t agree with her opinion of rest.

She went on to comment again on his job as well as his family, and Cyprien found himself looking skyward to the canopy overhead. “Depends on which of my family you ask,” he murmured, almost to himself. “But I would like to think that you’re right in that matter.”

Ravette
“Thank you, I’m glad that you think so.” The chestnut doe was almost finished taking care of Cyprien’s wounds since she was working on the last one now. The joke did make her smile knowing that he was comfortable with her presence even though she was only her to help him recover. Ravette would leave once she was finished, but would return if she was needed again. Cyprien was now one of her patients, well to her, he was.

Nodding, amber eyes glanced up at him for a moment “Seems to me that you will do well once you recover from this. I’m sure that you have done well as a guard, the others must appreciate what you have done to make sure that we stay safe.”

Cyprien
He nodded his head in response to her thanks, glancing toward the very last wound in need of tending where the healer’s attention now concentrated. It was strange after all this time to have a healer attending to him when he’d gone weeks, maybe even months with wounds left to the elements. Those had mostly scarred over, and now what was left for Ravette to work with were the product of war.

“I don’t do it for their appreciation,” Cyprien replied, his eyes meeting hers yet again until she returned her gaze to the task at hand. “But I’m thankful that they are safe.”

Ravette
Her focus was on the last wound that needed attention, making sure that it will be able to heal properly with the herbs that she is using to help with the healing process. Ravette was going to treat the wounds to the best of her abilities since she could tell that they never got any treatment during the time that he was missing. Scars still needed to be treated even if that was all that was left of the injury.

“I understand, but I’m sure that they are thankful to have someone around to help them.” Lifting her head up from the last wound, she made sure that she took care of all of them “Everything is taken care of now, just take it easy until the wounds are healed enough to move around without opening them.”
